MOT testing is legally required for all vehicles in the UK that are 3 years old or older.
Certified and approved testers conduct all MOT tests.
The MOT test encompasses various vehicle safety checks, including lights, tyres, seatbelts, and emissions. Only MOT garages with DVSA-approved examiners can perform the test.
The Ministry of Transport allows vehicles to be tested up to 28 days before the expiry date. It's advisable to schedule the MOT early to address any potential faults.
As of May 2018, the DVSA introduced a new classification system for faults, categorizing them as minor, major, or dangerous. Major or dangerous faults lead to an immediate MOT test failure.
